Start these in the bread machine – then shape them into your favorite carb delivery shape – this recipe is one of my favorites.
PrintEasy Bread Dough
I use this recipe for loaves of bread, rolls, hamburger buns, hot dog buns, cinnamon rolls, and pretty much anything you want a yeast-based white bread for. You can brush the tops with egg wash and add sesame seeds or everything bagel seasoning as well!
I will say – the rolls freeze nicely – but loaves tend to get a bit “crumby” when you freeze them – the beauty is – I do MOST of this in the bread machine and its easy to put together.
- Total Time: 40 + Rise Time
- Yield: 12 Rolls 1x
Ingredients
- 1 C Water – about 110 deg
- 1 Tbsp Sugar
- 2 1/4 tsp Active Dry Yeast (or 1 packet)
- 1/4 C Olive Oil
- 3 C Flour
- 1 tsp Salt
Instructions
- Add your yeast and sugar to the pan of your bread machine
- Add in the warm water and let sit for about 5 minutes to bloom
- Pour in your flour, olive oil, and salt
- Put in the bread machine on the “Dough” setting – this is equivalent to a 1.5 lb loaf
- Let it do its thing – my dough setting takes 1 1/2 hours
- When the time is up – immediately remove from bread machine and shape
You can do 12 rolls or 1 large loaf. Make sure you stretch the dough out and roll it into a nice loaf so there are no air pockets. Don’t beat all the air out of it, but make sure you flatten it and roll it up nice so there’s a smooth surface. I don’t use flour for this – but if your dough is sticky – you may need to. - Cover your shaped dough & pan with plastic wrap sprayed with a bit of avocado or cooking spray
- Set it in a warm spot for 30-45 minutes until it looks about double in size
- Bake at 375 degrees for about 23 minutes for rolls, a loaf is about 30-35 minutes
- Check the internal temperature to be sure – it should be 190 degrees or just under that when you pull it out of the oven
- Immediately brush some good butter on top & let sit for about 10 minutes -then remove to a cooling rack until completely cool
Notes
Why I like to do bread this way? The shape of the loaf, and the baking – I think bread machines overbake the bread, but try yours – you may like it. By doing your dough in the machine – you’ve got a fairly inexpensive piece of equipment working for you and giving you a pocket of time to nap, fold some laundry, work, putter in the garden, etc.
This is the Bread Machine I use – https://www.walmart.com/ip/2-lb-Digital-Bread-Maker-Model-29881/2459449854 – DO NOT PAY THIS MUCH FOR IT – I think I paid $40 for it years ago. You can get yours at the thrift store – just make sure it has a dough setting. Most thrift stores get bread machines in fairly regularly. Just keep an eye out or do an ISO on your local Facebook pages.
